Doxa II

All Her Children

Word and words and the definitions
of words weighing down those little
notebooks that serve no use
save the accumulation of words,
of which there is no end. Amen.
Even so, he tears out a page to disclose
to her the nature of things, things
in themselves, the meaning of the cosmos
and man’s station within it. She smiles
and attends again to the mountain
of laundry before her. As if she
already understood this, as if she
had always understood this: that
wisdom is justified by all her children.
